So, you’re a new manager – congratulations! You might be experiencing challenges transitioning from a team member to the manager.  This course will use the foundation of adaptive leadership theory and change management to help you examine your own leadership style, create a leadership philosophy, develop a concrete plan to improve team dynamics, and describe an effective approach to having those dreaded difficult conversations.  You’ll leave with real-world tools that you can apply to your management approach and your team to ensure a smooth transition from team member to manager.

Audience

Public health professionals, including nurses, health educators, and others, in health department settings who are newer to management

Learning Objectives

  • Describe adaptive leadership theory as it relates to managing team dynamics effectively
  • Examine your own leadership style for strengths and areas of opportunity in order to positively influence team dynamics
  • Create your leadership philosophy and operating management style as a tool to effectively lead existing team members and onboard new ones
  • Develop a plan to improve team dynamics and culture
  • Describe an effective approach to having difficult conversations with direct reports, such as performance evaluations
