This course focuses on improving health professionals’ competency in communication strategies and tactics and understanding the attributes of a successful communication program. The training also explores risk communications and the natural tension that exists between what health agencies want and need to communicate and what the public wants and needs to understand. Finally, the course provides a general overview of the importance of helping employees and the public through change.

This training was developed by the IUPUI Fairbanks School of Public Health.

Audience

Public health professionals in all settings, particularly those involved in health communication

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss successful communication strategies and tactics
  • Identify attributes of a successful communication program to apply in a public health setting
  • Describe how to bridge the risk information gap by applying a simple model
  • Discuss how applying change communications principles can support public health leaders’ effectiveness
