This presentation will provide an overview of the principles of evidence-based approaches in public health. It will include both the scientific basis for evidence-based approaches as well as the practical challenges of implementation. The focus will include what one can do as an individual (e.g., skill building) and as an organization (e.g., foster a learning environment). 


This session is intended for entry and mid-career individuals in public health, particularly those in governmental agencies.

  • Describe the principles of evidence-based public health (EBPH)
  • Discuss ways to advance evidence-based approaches
  • Explain how, when, and where to use evidence in short- and long- term decision making
  • Identify opportunities for individual and/or organizational investments to strengthen EBPH
